Cookies and analytics

What we count on our public pages, what we never track, and how to change your choice.

Updated 17 October 2026.

Where we count visits

We use Google Analytics on our public pages only: the home page, the guides for parents, pricing, the help and policy pages, the "create your free account" screen and the page-not-found page. It tells us how many people visit, which pages they read, where they came from (for example a search or a Facebook post), and whether they start a free trial.

What we never track

  • Nothing inside Study Compass itself. Once a parent or child is signed in, lessons, quizzes, writing, results and the grown-ups area have no analytics at all.
  • Nothing on the student sign-in screen.
  • No advertising. Google's advertising features, ad cookies and Google signals are switched off.
  • No names or emails. We don't send anyone's name, email address or child details to Google.

Your choice

Analytics cookies stay off until you press "Accept". If you choose "No thanks", or don't choose, Google Analytics sets no cookies. It still receives a basic, cookieless note that a page was viewed, which Google says it uses only for overall estimates. Your browser also shares its IP address and device type whenever it loads Google's script.

If you accept, Google Analytics sets two cookies, named _ga and _ga_ followed by a code. They let it recognise a returning browser, and Google keeps the data for up to 14 months.

Your current choice: not set.

Turning them off stops new cookies. To remove ones already set, clear this site's cookies in your browser settings.

What keeps you signed in

When you sign in, your browser's own storage keeps you signed in and holds work in progress. That's needed for the site to work, isn't shared with anyone for analytics, and is cleared when you sign out.

How you found us

On our public pages, your browser also keeps a small note of how you first arrived: the page you landed on, the site that sent you, and any campaign tag on the link. It's stored in your browser (as sc-first-touch), not as a cookie, and isn't sent anywhere while you browse. If you create an account, it's saved with your account so we can see which channels bring families. It's never shared or used for advertising. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes it.
